Who could have imagined this...?
My daughter had always expressed her wish to find donor siblings, ever since she could comprehend what that meant. I was always open and honest about the situation of her having a donor and what that meant (age appropriate conversation of course).
So, I joined the Donor Sibling Registry on 14th September 2017, but never paid.
I used to search using the ID word I knew, year of birth and as much information as possible; alas, nothing came back.
Then, on Tuesday 19th August 2025, I thought I'd search again using year of birth only.
Most posts coming up were donors from a different country, but then a couple caught my eye and all had the same ID number (no word). I googled the ID number and it came up that the number matches the name!
I could see one of the matches had a message attached and I realised to read it or send messages, I'd need to pay. My family helped out by paying for the lifelong membership on 22nd August 2025 and realised one family had messaged me on 29th December 2024 but I had not received it as I didn't have the membership... I reached out to the three matches on the same day and one replied explaining that there is a whole Facebook group with over 20 donor siblings already established and connected. I found the group with the information they gave me and In fact there are 25 including my daughter!
This group has been active for about 6 years and some families regularly meet up and have video calls too. There is a meet being discussed and we are hoping to be able to be part of that.
This has completely opened up my daughter's life. She is excited to be able to possibly meet her donor siblings one day. It feels like this happened weeks/months/years ago but in reality it was only 2 days ago! I just feel my daughter and I have been welcomed with open arms and just slotted in to a well established support network for our children 🥹.
If it wasn't for the Donor Sibling Registry, my daughter would never know about all these Donor Siblings and the connections they have already established, so thank you so much ❤️
